Radiological Survey and Characterization

Site surveys and characterizations to determine the nature and extent of radiological contamination.

Site operational history, physical environment, and data from any known contamination sources are used in planning a site characterization.  An integral part of a radiological site characterization is a radiation survey using specialized detection equipment. Auxier has extensive experience developing radiological survey strategies, plans and protocols. For most outdoor surveys, radiation detectors coupled with GPS equipment are used to collect site-specific data and plotted on maps or aerial photos. If type or extent of contamination is unknown, a scoping survey can be conducted to aid in planning a more detailed investigation. Data collected from either a scoping or detailed radiation survey provide information for site remediation, risk assessment or license termination.
